Dear Pastor, Church, and all Supporters;
This photo shows a new group whom we have been working with for the past couple of years; they are located in a district some one hundred thirty miles from where we reside here in Blantyre. The pastor’s name is Paul, and the story goes like this, there were three men who came to me some time back and wanted to work with our mission work and me. These three men, two of who told me they were pastors, and the third was a church member. Two of them had some knowledge of English, and the third only spoke in the Chichewa language. Their history was that of working with another man whom came here as a missionary but never does any missionary work – explain that to simple people. Their history to me was that they had been baptized, but could not tell me what church they were a member of (I thought baptism was an ‘ordnance of the church)? At any rate, they had simply been baptized without biblical authority and furthermore they were not members of any church. I informed them that I could not accept (freelance baptisms) Paul also corrected this in the book of Acts, didn’t he?
I informed them that we would need to come and do some teaching regarding our Articles of Faith, and if still they wanted to embrace LMBC faith then we could proceed with the necessary steps. In time, this was followed and during the month of March I proceeded with Baptisms and church organization.
I would like to make mention that the country of Malawi is about fifty percent Muslim, and these folks in the picture are deep within Muslim territory. Several of those who were examined before Baptism confessed that they had been converted Muslims, however they had heard a message of hope, which, Muhammad could not provide. I wished I could have recorded their confessions, as they have been some of the most compelling that I have heard from the lips of one who has been saved by God’s Grace. There were Twenty-three baptized and organized into a N.T. Baptist church.
Some of the following pictures will show some of the baptisms.
The elderly woman in the first picture would have been somewhere in her late seventies to early eighties, she had been a Muslim for many years, until she had heard of a Man called Jesus, who saves sinners from their sins forever. The picture below, simply shows the person to be buried, I do not
Believe a baptism is valid unless the burial is proper.
