Dear Pastor, Church, and All Supporters:
Mt 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the
coming of the Son of man be.
Mt 24:38 For as in the days that were before
the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and
giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
Continued Report….Part Two…. Meeting with Tanggi Bap church.
After Seven years of being here full time as a missionary, I have indicated in many reports the superficial topical (Baptist doctrine) which was being taught, and amongst that a lot of Catholicism, my question…. How did such doctrine and practice get into these Baptist churches? Who lost it on their Post? And what excuse will be given? To such questions, so to many Baptist churches around the world will have to give an answer as to such practice. It’s not only PNG, but I know some other places too, where the pastors have assumed (?) a tyrant headship, popish style operations of the local church.
Many have a name…. BUT are dead! The words of our LORD! Is this also not the earmarking of the ‘last days’, a ‘falling away’!
As I mentioned in the first part of this report, the Sunday (1st day opening the meeting) the Tanggi Bap church observed the L.S. this I preached the messaged and administered the ‘Ordinance’ a Baptist Church Ordinance, the Custodian of this great memorial of our LORD’S finished work.
In the evening part of the day, in the cool of the day, when the L.S. was observed, as it (should be) if there be any reading this and disagree with me on the timetable, then go back and study all the (types, pictures, shadows) of the O.T. and then study (again) when the timing was for our LORD when HE observed the Passover, and Instituted the L.S. with the first church. It’s not a breakfast, nor a luncheon it’s a Supper, the LORD’S SUPPER!
There were several young pastors from sister churches which, came along with members of those churches to witness this great memorial and Ordinance, thus the meeting had its beginning with the L.S.
There were accommodations set up on the Mission Station for those travelling far, we had pastors and church members who had walked for two days (their speed) three days my speed. It was the Tanggi Bap church which voted for the meeting; however, folks came from far to hear the preaching of GOD’S Word!
I had my own program with domestic chores, and studying, I have also indicated many times that there is no internet, T.V. telephones, video games, or outside interference (need to be more of this in our homes, and lives).
Discussions were about the GOD’S Word, people were doing what we Christians are supposed to do, talk (often) about the ‘things of our LORD’!
Some years ago, I had invested in two solar panels, two batteries and some lights for the Tanggi accommodations. The batteries are about spent, during the heat of the day they do ok, but at night (this is when one needs the solar lighting) there is only enough power to run two solar lights in one room only. This is restricted to the kitchen until dinner and mealtime, clean-up is over.
I spend the quiet part of the evening and early morning in study time. The nights are quiet and most every night we have heavy rains. Sunday ended, and the dawning of a new day began Monday.
Monday morning – 6th June
0500 hrs. the day started with my usual of bold coffee and my quiet time of study for the days message. My breakfast consisted of sweet-potato chips (fries for Americans), again life is just simple, and we get on with what we have.
0900 hrs. Church was assembled for services, the singing indicated there was spiritual life and the people were making their voices heard.
The LORD gave me great liberty and I preached without fear or favour, HIS Word was published and great was the company that heard. We had near four hundred in attendance. Some of you reading these reports of mine may remember the two- and three-week revival meetings, and some may remember one, even two-hour preaching services, there are still places in the world where this still is carried on, one being here in PNG. I preached for two hours, and after the message I was asked by some of the people… “Why did I quite so early” (?). I simply said, I preached all I had been given by the H.S and it was time to close.
With the rest of the day in front of me I had my own schedule to keep, domestic chores being one of them, clothes washing is manually done, the old way! I love technology and modern machinery; however, this had not helped GOD’S people to become better Christians, or better preachers (?) with all the facilitated help, it seems Christians are becoming weaker, churches are getting smaller, and Preachers are shallower than what good has all the technology and modern machinery done for us?
The house had to be cleaned, and I don’t mean a casual sweeping, clothes washing, bed linen and bathing towels all had to be washed and hung out (how many women still hang out on the clothesline?) I know me mum still does at 88, if I had a laundry iron all my clothes would be ironed as they were in Africa, so I use a stainless-steel pot I had made some years ago and this is used as an iron for my shirts and under-garments. With the rains, humidity and cooler temps in high altitude, mould, and mildew, are a constant issue here in PNG, any garment with a brass, or copper zipper, snaps etc. has to be lubricated with some type of oil, I simply use Vaseline as a rust inhibitor.
Though it is a hard and labourious life, it also provides a richness and quality of life that is only a conversation amongst most today. I knew of someone who would talk of how they dreamed of and would have loved to live during the US cowboy days, however, I later learned that this was mostly a movie dream, or conversation. That is where it is with most today, the old life is great to watch, but to live it, most want nothing to do with it.
The day being spent with chores, and domestic duties, I took the afternoon hours to study and prepare for tomorrow. I was told that people were still coming in to hear the preaching.
May our LORD keep each of you in the centre of HIS will and smile upon the work of your hands for HIM.
In His Grace,
Missionary Peter Halliman
