Dear Pastor, Church, and All Supporters,
Romans 15:22–25 — For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you. But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you; Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with your company. But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.
Having lived in both worlds — that of the developed world (the children of Japheth) and the world of the children of Ham — I understand the task and difficulty of travel on a Biblical scale.
I know what it is to cross the oceans by air, to cross rivers by canoe, to drive the eight-lane motorways of the USA covering eight hundred to one thousand miles in a single day, and I know what it means to drive the bush roads in PNG covering two hundred miles in twelve hours.
I want to update all of you with regard to what I feel the LORD is doing, and NOT doing, at least in my little life.
There is a query I would like the reader to ask themselves: who is it that controls your steps? Most of us would agree it is the LORD — Psalm 37:23: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”
I find most Christians believe this in theory. GOD’S people are slow in learning two things: that it is the LORD who controls and directs not only the steps but also the stops in our lives. Re-read the verses above and explain to me how it was that Paul was hindered.
I spent considerable time and money to reach the USA last year. I will not repeat the story, only to say: when the LORD wants you somewhere, HE will open that door, and no government, no sickness, no demon, and not even Satan will detain you. That is Bible, end of story.
People are people no matter what generation or country they live in. The common issues of life plague all nations and individuals. It is only the most matured children of GOD who are not distracted or moved by the events of the world, but whose compass is set to True North.
I have said all that to say this: I never intended nor planned to stay this long in the USA; however, my steps again are ordered by the LORD. I have spent considerable time reaching churches and supporters, preaching, holding meetings, going where invited, and passing by where not welcomed.
In six months’ time I have driven over 42,000 miles — not on holiday or vacation, but doing the LORD’S work. Just because I am not in PNG or Malawi does not mean I am not on the mission field.
Different people have different ideas about this virus going around, which Satan has inspired and used to divide even GOD’S people. International travel has been severely affected and restricted. Government rulings cannot be thwarted; however, an individual may make their own decision.
There are demanding needs for me to put boots on the ground in Malawi and Mozambique due to problems in the mission work; however, with the compulsory measures by the Malawian government, I do not feel I can comply with their demands, and so I am delayed.
Secondly, PNG followed suit with Australia and had the country on lockdown. Recently I was sent an update from the Prime Minister’s office: the borders have been re-opened and measures are being put in place to allow international travel.
My pastor and home church know exactly where I am and what I am doing. I try to keep all supporters updated on events surrounding my life and mission work.
The current status is that I have plans to be in PNG by April. With the time drawing near, I have much to prepare. I will keep all of you updated as time and opportunity permits.
I ask simply for your prayers — that the LORD will order my steps, and that I will remain in HIS will, not mine, and not yours.
In His Name,
Missionary Peter Halliman
