Dear Pastor, Church, and All Supporters:
2 Timothy 2:2 — And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
Colossians 4:17 — And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.
This report is being written from my quarters in Mt. Hagen. I have been engaged in the teaching of the Bible Academy for five straight weeks without a break. Further to this, the Bible Academy is also ongoing in Malawi, Africa — a cooperative effort.
Acts 20:20 — And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house.
Part of the Great Commission is to teach all things, and this cannot be done properly except in a systematic and orderly fashion. The time has come to pursue that end both here in PNG and in Malawi.
For twenty-eight years I was not here in PNG, and during those years many false doctrines crept into the local churches. A lot of Catholic doctrine has found its way into the Baptist churches here. On whose watch did this happen, and why? It is clear that Satan will do what he will to corrupt the LORD’S churches.
I started the Bible Academy five weeks ago here in PNG. There are twenty-four students, eighteen of whom are pastors. I began with the doctrine of GOD’S Financial Program for HIS churches — Tithes and Offerings. The more I study GOD’S Word on this subject, the more I am convinced that the reason so many of GOD’S people do not have is because they are stealing from the Creator.
GOD’S Word will bring to light those things hidden. HIS Holy Spirit will work within the lives of HIS people — if indeed they are HIS people.
I decided to conduct the schooling here in Mt. Hagen for several reasons: availability of office supplies and classroom materials, accommodations for the pastors and students free from family and tribal disturbances, and access to telecommunications and technology essential to my ministry.
When teaching from one language to another, you cannot always transliterate — many times a whole thought must be developed. With the Huli and Duna languages, there is no word for “Holy,” no word for “God,” “Jesus,” or “Christ.” The entire Trinity of the Godhead is missing from their vernacular. No word for Heaven, Hell, Angels, Atonement, Grace, Mercy, or Sin. So, Mr. Preacher, how would you proceed to teach these people Baptist doctrine?
You may think it is simply a matter of opening the Bible and preaching. The fact of the matter is that the days of Prophets, Apostles, and Pentecost have not been repeated. I do not have the gift of tongues — I must learn languages. It took me four years to learn the language in Malawi.
I spend seven to eight hours a day, five days a week, in Bible school with the pastors and students. I am conducting two Bible schools simultaneously. The translation work is a heavy load. When I finish class time here in PNG, I arrive home, and at 7:00 pm local time the class in Malawi is beginning — eight hours ahead — and I spend time on live video to address questions and discuss difficult passages.
Pray for these schools, for the students in their learning, and pray the LORD will supply the means to keep these schools in session, that our mission may be completed.
In His Name,
Missionary Peter A. Halliman
