Dear Pastor, Church, and All Supporters:

2 Timothy 3:1 — This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

Luke 21:28 — And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

I have returned to Mt. Hagen after twenty-two days at the old mission station. I preached a fifteen-day revival meeting for the Tanggi Bap Church, with many members from sister churches attending — saved, unsaved, GOD’S people, and the heathen alike. I will give you a short summation of the preparation leading up to this meeting.

I spent a good week preparing the old Land Rover for the trip. Insurance, registration, and roadworthiness were all secured within two days — a miracle if you don’t think it is. Come to PNG and try it yourself.

Food and supplies were gathered as best I could with ongoing banking issues. I had planned to be out there for one week’s meeting.

I planned a night drive, as the national elections were under way with much turmoil, political unrest, and road blockages being common. I worked all day, came home, prepared, showered, packed, and set off by 10:30 pm, collecting three men and an older lady trying to get back to her village.

Two miles out of town all the lights blacked out. I ran on an emergency spot bar with an independent switch all night until daybreak. The engine was also overheating about every thirty minutes — stopping to cool down, fill up with water, and continuing. A normal ten-hour trip turned into sixteen hours. I had to ford a flooded road three feet deep, but the old Land Rover carried on.

When I arrived at the Tanggi Mission Station I was numb from the trip. I cleaned the house, took a late bath, and went to bed. It was late morning the next day when I woke. I felt as though I had been in a train wreck.

The next few days I spent studying and preparing for the meeting. The revival started on Sunday, and I preached two messages that day. By Sunday afternoon many people had come from sister churches nearby; the crowd was well above five hundred, and even though I preached for two hours a service, the people thought I quit too early.

Each day services started at 09:00 am with no set timeline, giving much freedom. I was up early each morning in my studies, as evenings were filled with discussions, questions, and fellowship.

The subject on which I was asked to speak was the Second Coming of our Lord. No matter one’s position, one thing is certain: the LORD is coming back. He told His disciples He was going to prepare a place and would come again. The disciples watching Him ascend were informed by the angels that He would return in like manner.

Be ye ready is the command — the urgency of the hour, the suddenness of His coming. I am not looking for the Antichrist; I am looking for The Christ. Either way, for me it is a win-win.

Each day the crowds seemed to grow. The spirit among the people was good; the singing was as it should be — unashamed and unapologetic — and the valley reverberated with songs of praise. I believe there is too much form and ritual in our worship services. Where is it written: a prayer, three songs, and the message? Where did the thirty-minute mark come from in GOD’S Word?

On Sunday I officiated the LORD’S Supper at the church’s request. It was the first time for the young pastor to participate in this great memorial. Indeed, many men have died cruel deaths, but none had the power to surrender their life at will as did our LORD. The memorial service is a reminder for HIS people to look for HIS coming.

Many men have been buried, but none have risen from the grave by their own power. Others have been resurrected by Another — that Sovereign power which created all the world and everything in it.
