Dear Pastor, Church, & All Supporters:
Ecclesiastes 12:13 — Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Galatians 6:9 — And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
I sent out two mission reports for December 2022. This is the first report of the new year 2023. I started the year with a full programme. On 3 January 2023 I started back with the teaching of the Bible Academy. Most pastors had returned, but some were delayed by transport problems and tribal fighting, as explained in previous reports.
I cannot operate a schedule and school based on who comes or doesn’t come, and I do not privately tutor individuals who miss sessions. I only have twenty-four hours in a day like every other human, and in that timeline I have domestic chores, shopping, bills, study, teaching, driving, mechanical work, and doctoring to attend to. The fault lies in how you manage your time.
I have communications from around the world that I try to keep up with. GOD’S work is inclusive of many areas, not just preaching or studying.
It would do well for many preachers to shepherd a flock of sheep, and then they would understand what it is to pastor GOD’S people.
The school runs on a timetable of eight hours per day. I teach alone — there is no one to assist me or give me a break. There is reading, studying, translating, typing, and proof-reading of the outlines. I make copies and hand them out only to facilitate my own timetable; otherwise I would be delayed further waiting on students to write from the blackboard.
Many years ago in Malawi I needed help in the work and made my need public. In time someone did come — and that someone did not help but hindered, and almost destroyed the work. Satan will use even Christians and preachers to halt and frustrate the work of the LORD.
I no longer ask for help — only that you pray our LORD will give me the strength and health to continue. I don’t need a handicap or someone coming here to reinvent ministry. Many older preachers and pastors have at some point experienced what I am speaking about.
For twenty-eight years I was away from this work, busy in Malawi and Mozambique. During those years, the senior pastors — my father’s generation — either did not teach properly what they had been taught (2 Timothy 2:2), or they did teach but the younger generation did not receive or embrace these teachings. Whatever the case, the real Baptist position on almost every doctrine was distorted, changed, added to, or deleted. Tribal customs became the commandments of GOD (Matthew 15:8–9).
I returned full time in 2015 and for seven years engaged in spiritual battle — not with the heathen, but with those who were called by GOD’S name, those who said they were the spiritual leaders of GOD’S people and HIS churches. In these past seven years my name, character, and person have been attacked. My vehicle has been shot up — bullet holes are still in the Land Rover, and the windscreen has two bullet holes where I was targeted. BUT GOD did not allow further results. I have been roadblocked, had tyres cut with machetes, and had high-powered weapons put to my head with triggers pulled — with only the firing pin sounding. Plans have been made to have me deported, arrested, or detained.
I made it clear to these brethren — one must wonder what kind of brethren — that if there was not a change in 2023, I would call it a day and walk away. I did not come here to engage in physical or spiritual battle with those who are called by the same name as I — meaning GOD’S family of people.
These people have been so accustomed to doing as they like, with no real accountability to anyone, that all kinds of false doctrine entered the lives of people and churches here. All this heresy points to one kind of church and denomination — Revelation 17, the great whore, the Catholic church.
How did such stout Catholic doctrine enter these Baptist churches in one generation? 2 Chronicles 7:14 — “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
The New Testament times are not the only times that had Pharisees — the religious world is full of them today.
I have completed 856 hours of actual class time with these pastor-students. Exams are every two weeks. We have completed the doctrine of Tithes, Offerings, and Stewardship, and are now on Church doctrine. If one is wrong on church doctrine, many other doctrines will also be in error.
This will conclude the mission report at this time; however, in a few days I will have another report forthcoming. May our LORD bless the work of your hands and smile upon your life as we labour together in HIS vineyard.
In His Name,
Missionary Peter Halliman
